Pets On The Web
PETFINDER - is an excellent resource for people who are looking to adopt a pet. Petfinder allows users to search for all types of animals from cats and dogs to more exotic creatures such as reptiles and pot belly pigs. It is a perfect place to find exactly what you're looking for, right down to specific breeds, gender, age, location and temperament. You'll also be helping one of 250,000 needy pets find a home. In addition to being a virtual animal shelter, PetFinder also has a wealth of information and resources for pet owners. A comprehensive library includes articles about various breeds, behavioral issues, tips for choosing the perfect pet and how to care for it. PetFinder offers instructive videos on dog and cat training, educational games for kids, message boards, shopping and volunteer opportunities.
HEALTHY PET - from the American Animal Hospital Association is a source for accurate, entertaining pet care information.
CARE FOR ANIMALS - The American Veterinary Medical Association offers resources for kids about pet care. Animated Journeys shows kids how much fun it can be to learn about pets. Paws For Pets offers information for the new pet owner, including seasonal pet health tips. Petpourri is a collection of puzzles and games that will provide hours of entertainment while teaching children about responsible pet ownership.
THE PET TIMES - A pet lover could spend hours on this large info packed animal site! It includes thousands of articles on all kinds of different pets and on all aspects of their care. The Pet Times offers travel guides for pet friendly lodging, transportation and a list of dog parks in the US organized by state. Plus there are games, quizzes, fun facts and the opportunity to upload videos and photos of your pets. You can browse through thousands of pet related classified ads and shop for pet care products through The Pet Times Shop or peruse pet products listed on EBay without leaving the site.
PETSWELCOME - If you've ever been burned by the "Sorry, we don't accept pets" experience, PetsWelcome can help. The site lists hotels, apartments, ski resorts, campgrounds, and even amusement parks that are pet friendly throughout the world.
SIMPLE PET CARE - provides straightforward, understandable and friendly information for the care of many popular pets including cats, dogs, birds, hamsters, mice, rats, guinea pigs, and rabbits. It is an excellent site for older children because it is easily navigable with clear cut categories which cover a brief history of each animal, general information according to the species, care instructions, health information, diseases, reproduction and the different types of breeds belonging to the species. In addition to pet info, Simple Pet Care has a list of puppy and dog names, a blog, feature articles and free pet animations. Simple Pet Care also has a limited amount of pet care products available for purchase.
PETSMART - An online destination for pet supplies, health, behavior, nutrition and training information. PetSmart is a pet store, so you will find LOTS of pet supplies, toys and other products for sale here. But there are also a lot of great articles in the right-hand column of each page.
DOG BREED INFORMATION CENTER - Photos of every breed are listed, plus just about anything a prospective owner needs to know about a particular type of dog.
CFA - The Cat Fanciers' Association boasts the the world's largest registry of pedigreed cats. At this site, you'll find information on cat breeds & care, cat shows, and a showcase of top winning cats.
PET SAGE - is a progressive site for pet lovers offering valuable information and products that promote the optimum health and well being for your pets. You can find recipes for making your own dog and cat foods, articles about training and solving behavioral problems as well as holistic remedies for your pet that are worth a try when traditional veterinary medicine fails. Pet Sage has 15 different departments of holistic pet care products that include diet, supplements, first aid, interesting and creative toys, bedding and accessories to pamper your pet. Be sure to check out their resources page for some more non-traditional pet oriented sites.
PETCENTRIC - is a community focused on pets, with great photos and videos, but it also has instructive articles about pet care, pet product reviews and animal news. One very cool feature of Petcentric is its Doggie Mail. You can use Doggie Mail to create humorous emails which depict a talking dog. You choose from three dogs, a variety of scenes and accessories and then type in text which will be spoken in the voice option of your choice-sure to amuse your pet loving friends!
REC.PETS - In Usenet discussion groups, you can find thousands of people talking about all aspects of pet ownership. Here's an easy web-based interface to the rec.pets newsgroups, via Google Groups:

There are also lots of excellent support groups for specific cat and dog conditions on Yahoo Groups. I run one for Feline Hyperthyroid; other groups include feline chronic renal failure, feline diabetes, feline assisted feeding and many more. |

You should also add petfinder.com It's an excellent resource for persons wanting to adopt a homeless or rescued animal, plus there are a variety of resources available to the users. I highly recommend it and invite anyone to look at the Grayson County Humane Society animals if you are wanting to adopt. Our animals are totally terrific. |

Bob, You might like to mention Dogster too, www.dogster.com (and Catster, www.catster.com). It's a wonderful site that offers everything a dog owner/lover could want, especially in terms of pet care and health and everything in between. They have also established a Dogster railroad to transport animals that are going to be adopted anywhere across the US. |
